STEP 3: In the comment box below, share your biggest question about building a successful horse business..

  1. Building a business plan to get started building a facility

  2. Am I imagining it, or do some regional populations of horse trainers treat each other with less than good manners and sense? Oftentimes in our neck of the woods; it feels petty, selfish, and insecure at the horseshows. Along with it comes a resultant poorer style of horsemanship in the group at large. If this is not a product of imagination; doesn’t this kind of competition and attitude hurt that local horse industry? How would one begin to address this, if it is in fact something real and harmful?

  3. I'd like to charge more and be able to have a waiting list for the barn, so I know there will be constant profit coming in.

  4. The cost of feed and keeping horses has forced us to sell our lesson horses just to stay afloat. Training has become our main income. We are not showing right now and not well known in the latest horse atmospheres. How do we keep going?

  5. I do not own horses right now and retired. However would be interested in doing something to make money in thee we horse world. I have been involved in racing TB, cutting, reining , gymkhana, and jumping!

  6. I have been away from the horse industry for 10 years raising a family. Looking to get back into it but alot has changed. Looking for info on different income options. And what customers are looking for now.

  7. We haven't increased our prices in the last three years, but we have increased revenue. Costs are killing us. I'm having a hard time convincing my brother that we need to charge more. On top of board and training, most of our clients also spend a ridiculous amount for my brother to ride their horses in futurity competitions. They are dedicated clients and we don't want to gouge good folks. On the other hand, there just ain't enough money to go around or hire good help. Thank you sir, for setting up this program.

  8. I always feel like I’m barely making ends meet. I teach mostly and have some boarders. I want to be more profitable with fewer hours, how can I make this happen

  9. How to get your name out there when there are several other horse trainers in your area. How to successfully bring in nice horses with the ability to turn them into something great to make a profit

  10. Is keeping your own herd counterintuitive to success?

  11. Collaborating with like passionate people to put a multi stream business model together rather than hiring employees

  12. Fair prices of monthly fees without having any championship titles or buckles

  13. Where can we find mentors to talk to about growing our horses businesses. The second to last trainer I worked for didn’t let me show anymore after I got a National top ten in an Open class (30+ entries) (spend year and half more before I left). The last one told me a few times after 6 months there that he didn’t want me to take any clients away from him. Most trainers I have worked for don’t want to “share their secrets” so they don’t loose any clients. Thank you.

  14. How to make profit on good horses

  15. What is the best way to make multiple streams of revenue without lots of added work?

  16. I would like to learn how to rebrand myself and get the right clients in my program. I’ve always been known as the 2 year old girl, but my heart and soul is in refining 3 year olds and prepping them for their futurity year (barrel racing). How do I get the right kind of clients to take a chance on me with that stage of the horse’s training rather then sending them off to the top trainers after I’ve started them?

  17. How to find where your profits are maximized, where the x and y axis cross and you are at the peak of profit margin.

  18. I pay my bills and manage to enjoy my life but if anything breaks or goes wrong I’m one month away from trouble. I just want to find a cushion

  19. I have been in the horse business all of my life and like you, I haven’t been able to monetize my profession

  20. Our breeding program consists of 3 studs and a dozen broodmares. Our program is focused on the pro rodeo world, not the reining world, but the principles are much the same. My biggest question is how do get your name know for what you breed, so you have a steady stream of clients coming to you each year for horses? We breed really nice horses. Everyone is always super happy with what they buy. But these horses need to be in the hands of people competing at a high level. Not just your local cowboys. No offense to the local cowboys, but where we live, they don't care much about how nice a horse is. They'd be happy riding a well broke mustang.
